Top Ten Tuesday: Books I wish I'd Read as a Kid

Top Ten Tuesday is a great meme hosted at The Broke and the Bookish.

This week's topic is: Top Ten Books I Wish I'd Read as a Kid. So, there are some books (mostly children's classics) that I haven't read yet, but I wish I'd read as a kid; or, I have read them, but as an adult and that kind of took away the magic.

Top Ten Books I Wish I'd Read as a Kid are:
1. Alice in Wonderland (Lewis Carroll): I read it as an adult and thought it was entertaining, but nothing special. I'm sure that if I'd read it as a kid, I would have liked it better.
2. The Chronicles of Narnia (C.S. Lewis): I only started reading the books recently.
3. Peter Pan (J.M. Barrie): I haven't read Peter Pan. I really should.
4. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (Jules Verne): When I was a kid, my grandpa would narrate the story to me and I was really interested in it. Now, I can't find inspiration to read this book. I wish I'd done it in my childhood.
5. Matilda (Roald Dahl): I've read quite a few Dahl books, but never Matilda, which is a bit odd. Now, there are just so many other books to read.
6. The Tale of Peter Rabbit (Beatrix Potter): Such a cute story! The first time I read the story was when the movie Miss Potter was released.
7. The Secret Garden (Frances Hodgson Burnett): I love the movie, such a timeless story.
8. Anne of Green Gables (Lucy Maud Montgomery): Again, love the movie, haven't read the book.
9. A Series of Unfortunate Events (Lemony Snicket): They sound so fun! I would have loved the books as a kid, and I hope I'll like them as an adult.
10. Charlotte's Web (E.B. White): It has been recommended to me many times. It sounds absolutely lovely.

I wish I had read all those too :( But I did read Peter Rabbit, but why did I never read Anne of G, I mean I loved the tv-series

You must read Matilda! and Anne! I also recommend The Secret Garden but that's less important.

Wow, this a great list! I haven't read many of those either. Charlotte's Web can be adored at any age--please don't avoid reading this!

I could copy the list:)Except that I read Peter Pan and Matilda (a great book, although it still gives me creeps when I remember it - SPOILER: something to do with worms, yuck)

What a wonderful idea for a list. There are a number of books I wish I'd read but I never formally read a list. I've started my way through some of them lately and I really enjoy them but I can't help wonder how reading them as a child might have influenced me differently.

Kudos to you for making this list and best of luck getting around to reading them. Enjoy. :)

I'm with you on the Jules Verne. I could do with reading that now actually.

I've never been an Alice in Wonderland person though, just too bizarre for me.

I've read all of these but Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea . . . which, come to think of it, is on my reading schedule for this year. =P

But I should add that I didn't get to The Chronicles of Narnia until I was in college (when The Last Battle totally blew me away) and didn't appreciate Peter Pan until I reread it last year (when it seemed as if I was reading it for the first time). So I'm a firm believer that it's not so important to read a children's book in childhood as it is to read the right book at the right time. =)

Good luck getting around to all of them! May this year be that right time!

I read Anne of Green Gables after watching the PBS series. It was good but I wish I had read the book first. Nice list!
